U'khand: Modi calls up Bahuguna, assures assistance
Modi asked Bahuguna about the tourists from Gujarat who visited Uttarakhand and were affected by the flash floods and landslides. Thousands of people were left stranded in the state while hundreds were reportedly dead. The death toll is expected to rise once the flood water recedes.
Modi, who was in New Delhi on Tuesday to meet top BJP leaders and also officials of the Planning Commission, also tweeted about his conversation with Bahuguna. He said: "Spoke to #Uttarakhand CM Vijay Bahuguna ji. Assured him any help required in relief work & asked about people from Guj affected by floods."
On Tuesday evening, Modi expressed solidarity with the people of Uttarakhand and prayed that normalcy was restored at the earliest. He tweeted: "Seeing extremely disturbing visuals of floods in Uttarakhand. We stand by the people during this hour & pray things get back to normal soon."
Meanwhile, the BJP and Congress traded charges over giving in before the pressure of the mining, construction and timber lobbies to block proposal of setting up a eco-zone in the state.
