Assam, June 15: In a shocking incident today, four people were tested HIV positive after undergoing a blood transfusion in the state-run Mangaldai hospital in Assam. However, hospital officials remain defiant, saying that such transfusions have been conducted previously and no such complaints have been registered before.
Meanwhile, the state health department has sent a team to the hospital to investigate the matter and the Assam government has issued a probe order. Local protests, in front of the hospital, demand a thorough investigation into the matter.
This incident throws light on the sorry state of affairs of the state-run hospitals in many regions of the country.
