May 15, slapped provisions under the stringent anti-organised crime
act MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) against
Other bookies, who also were arrested over IPL spot fixing scandal, also faced the same charges. According to MCOCA, it would be difficult for the cricketers to get bail and the punishment would be more stringent if they are convicted.
Meanwhile, Sreesanth's lawyer was quoted as saying, "I don't understand how a cricketer can be charged under MCOCA. The Delhi police has imposed MCOCA solely to deny Sreesanth his right to bail."
