New Delhi, May 29: Mahendra Singh Dhoni -- Team India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, has been trying to avoid any communication with media since last couple of days. Now, finally when he confronted press on Tuesday, May 28, the skipper irked many people who had expected him to break his silence over the recent infamous IPL spot fixing scandal.
The scandal was busted with arrests of three Rajasthan Royals (RR) cricketers -- S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila, Ankeet Chavan and many other bookies on May 16. Soon, many other bookies including small time Bollywood actor Vindoo Dara Singh and CSK owner Gurunath Meiyappan were arrested.
Despite having close connections with Meiyappan and CSK, Dhoni did not make any comment on the controversy. But when he refused to comment on the incidents again during Tuesday's press conference, many people expressed disappointment with the skipper.
CNN-IBN quoted former Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu, N Ram as saying, "I am terribly disappointed with Dhoni. Now if Dhoni had even moderately expressed his opinion on what happened, do you think they were going to sack him? Do you think the cricket loving public of India would have stood for it."
"I am very disappointed with the Indian captain as well as the others. The time has come to ask the BCCI President to resign. The time has come to break through the silence and the issue must be forced," he added.
Not only media organisations but some former cricketers also asserted that Dhoni should have broken his silence. Former cricketer Maninder Singh was quoted as saying, "I think he could have just been diplomatically correct. I think he is going to regret this press conference when he leaves cricket because he could have really handled it in a better way."
"His silence on this issue is very serious. Without saying anything a lot of things have been said," said BJP MP and former cricketer Kirti Azad.
However, It seems that the Indian skipper might have been gagged by BCCI as the media co-ordinator too did not allow anyone to ask anything controversial.
Dhoni is one among the most popular and successful Indian cricketers who have proved themselves as good players and captains. Indians, who worship cricketers as their god and cricket as their religion, were shocked and shattered post IPL fixing row. Citing the reactions of the countrymen, it seems that this is time when Team India captain should re-consider his decision of not taking questions regarding the scandalous events.
