Kolkata, May 23: The Kolkata Police on Wednesday arrested nine people, including a known bookie Ajit Surekha, in connection to the ongoing spot-fixing scandal in the Indian Premier League (IPL). All the arrested will be produced in a court later in the day.

Eight mobile phones and two laptops with betting software besides Rs 3 lakh were seized from the arrested.

Police suspect that the local betting rackets could be more active since the final two matches of this year's edition are set to be held at the Eden Gardens later this week.

A massive betting scandal was exposed after three cricketers of the Rajasthan Royals, including fast bowler Sreesanth, were arrested by the Delhi Police from Mumbai on May 15 for allegedly spot fixing in their team's matches in the IPL. A number of bookies were held from different parts of the country.

The scandal went on snowballing and its first Bollywood link was exposed a couple of days ago when actor Vindoo Dara Singh was arrested for his alleged links with bookies.

Four bookies were also arrested from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh and Rs 6 lakh was recovered from them.
