BJP announces Team 2014: Amit Shah gets charge of UP

New Delhi, May 20: The BJP on Sunday appointed its state in-charges looking forward to the next Lok Sabha elections scheduled next year. While Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's close aide Amit Shah was appointed in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, young leader Varun Gandhi was given the charge to oversee West Bengal.

Senior leader from Rajasthan Om Mathur was given the charge of Gujarat while Rajya Sabha member of the party Smriti Irani was declared as in-charge of Goa.

Former minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy was given the charge of Rajasthan.

Senior party leader and former national vice-president Purushottam Rupala will be in charge of Kisan Morcha of the party at the national level.

Senior minister in Modi's Cabinet Nitin Patel was announced the co-convener of Good Governance Cell.

The Congress and the Samajwadi Party have questioned the decision to appoint Shah as in-charge of UP although BJP president Rajnath Singh said Shah has been a member of a successful administration in Gujarat.
