New Delhi, May 15: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh filed his nomination papers in the Assam assembly on Wednesday to get re-elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state. Singh has been representing the state in the Upper House since 1991, ever since he joined politics.

Besides Singh's term which is ending on June 14, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) MP Kumar Deepak Das's term is also coming to an end. Hemo Prabha Saikia, widow of former Assam CM Jiteshwar Saikia and a senior Congress leader, is a front runner for that seat.

According to one report, her home in Guwahati is 'rented' for Singh for the latter needs an address in the state to contest the polls.

Saikia is a member of the Congress Working Committee and one will see if she continues to be a part of that and makes way for another candidate or contest the polls.

Singh is predicted to win big for his party and its allies have 94 seats in the 126-member assembly. The AGP and other opposition parties have little chance of contesting against the Congress.

The last date of filing the nomination is May 20 and elections are scheduled for May 30.
