Casualty over IPL bet: MBA graduate kidnaps, kills cousin

Mumbai, May 15: Shocking revelations surfaced in 13-year-old Aditya Ranka kidnap and murder case in Mumbai. Police informed that the victim's cousin Himangshu along with his friend had hatched the conspiracy to get a ransom of Rs 30 lakh which they reportedly had lost during a bet over IPL match.

The two accused, MBA graduates, have been arrested and reportedly have confessed to their crime. According to police sources, Himangshu called Aditya and kidnapped him in a car. However, he stayed back at the home to avoid any kind of suspicion.

After getting a call asking ransom from Himangshu's friend, Aditya's father Jitendra Ranka, a diamond trader, approached police station. The two accused decided to kill the boy when crime branch took over the investigation.

Himangshu's friend first slit Aditya's wrist and later set him on fire. Police later found charred remains of Aditya's body. Jitendra Ranka suspected Himangshu's involvement in the case when he found Aditya's slipper in Himangshu's car. He alerted the police who later found blood stains under car bannot.

During a press conference in Mumbai, police official was quoted as saying, "Since Friday, when Himanshu was in Rajasthan, the planning was on. They had Rs 10 lakh pending over the betting. They had decided that they would kidnap someone and seek ransom to pay for the betting loss. When the accused came to know that his uncle was expecting Rs 30 lakh, he decided to kidnap the 13-year-old."
