Arun Jaitley slams UPA, calls it a 'Cash and Carry' govt

New Delhi, May 4: Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley slammed the Congress-led UPA government over the series of corruption charges which have surfaced in the last three years, and called it a 'Cash and Carry government'.

Jaitley said the government, which has been seriously accused in a number of corruption cases like the Commonwealth Games scam, 2G scam and coal scam has lost its shame and dignity and accused it of alienating people by being brazen.

He took on the government after a fresh allegation was levelled against the nephew of Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal for accepting bribe to secure a top post in the railways. Vijay Singla, Bansal's kin, was arrested and sent to four-day of police custody on the charges of accepting Rs 90 lakh as bribe. He was held by the CBI on a tip-off on Friday.

Bansal offered to quit his ministerial position following after the allegations were made although Prime Minister Manmohan Singh did not accept it. A meeting was underway at the 7 Race Course Road over the issue till the last reports came in.

The opposition BJP has been seeking resignation of the PM, Union Law Minister Aswani Kumar and Bansal over the Coalgate and Railgate scams.
