Anbumani held in dawn crackdown on PMK leaders in TN
On Tuesday, Anbumani's father and PMK (Pattali Makkal Katchi) founder S Ramadoss, was arrested for defying police orders and holding protests at Villupuram, around 170 km from Chennai. Later on Friday, he was granted bail.
Tamil Nadu has been seeing the violent unrest for the past three days with PMK cadres stoning buses, cutting down tress and damaging public property, especially in the northern and western belts of TN.
Anbumani was arrested by Kancheepuram police from his T Nagar residence at 6.30 am. The police said the case was filed last year. He will be produced before a local court in Thirukazhukundram in Kancheepuram district.
According to police, more than five buses and eight liquor shops were torched after the arrest of Ramadoss on Tuesday. Anbumani denied allegations that his party cadres had torched government buses and state-run liquor shops.
Ramadoss and several other PMK leaders were arrested on Tuesday when they attempted to stage a protest demanding a judicial inquiry into the clashes between Dalits and backward Vanniyars. who form support base of the PMK. The incident took place on April 25 at Marakkanam near Puducherry.
