How alcohol ruined Sarabjit Singh's life, recalls friend
Childhood friends of Sarabjit at Taran Taran, Punjab, recalled how Sarabjit had crossed Pakistan border under the influence of alcohol. Remembering the fateful night in 1990, the friend said that Sarabjit had taken his tractor and went for farming. Then he had never returned as he had crossed the border by mistake under the influence of alcohol, added his friend.
Sarabjit was allegedly involved in a string of bomb attacks in Pakistan's Punjab province which had killed 14 people in 1990. He was attacked by his fellow prisoners who have been slapped with murder charges.
Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Thursday assured his family members that Sarabjit's last rites would be performed as per the wishes of his family members.
The Home Minister was quoted as saying, "We are sad Sarabjit is no more with us. It is a very sad incident. We are trying to get the body. But it will depend on Pakistan government. We will have to wait."
