The employees of the news channel, who worked under Ghosh who was the chief executive officer of the Saradha Media Group, demanded his arrest. This would mean more trouble for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as many of her ministers and party leaders have been accused of being involved in the massive chit fund scam that rocked West Bengal over the last fortnight.
The TMC leaders met on Friday to discuss the issue and party leaders clearly showed that they were divided on how to deal with Ghosh.
According to a few leaders, Ghosh should surrender before the police to help the party protect its image while according to others, it could send a wrong signal about the party shielding Ghosh knowing fully well that he was involved in the scam.
The employees also lodged an FIR against the Saradha Group's vice-chariman Somnath Dutta who is currently absconding and other officials of the group. Sources said that senior police officers consulted Banerjee regarding the FIR against Ghosh although the latter's reaction was still not known.
A protest took place at the news channel's office over the issue on Friday.
The Saradha chit fund scheme went bust with thousands of people across West Bengal going bankrupt. Many journalists were also thrown out of job after the group's media establishment collapsed. The owner of the group, Sudipta Sen, and two of his associates were caught later from Sonamarg in Jammu and Kashmir.
