Family member helps police catch MP rape accused in Bihar
He was taken into custody on Tuesday from Bhagalpur in Bihar after his aunt identified him and he was apprehended by the public. He was also beaten up by the public. The MP Police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for his arrest.
The girl was allegedly raped by the 35-year-old last week after he lured her with a chocolate. The minor, meanwhile, continues to remain critical in a Nagpur hospital. Her condition has deteriorated and she was on life support. She has suffered severe brain injuries and the doctors fearing that she could be brain dead.
Meanwhile, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in MP has announced that it will reopen all past cases of alleged rapes and re-investigate them.
MP has figured as the state with maximum rape cases registered for more than a decade and many of the accused were habitual offenders. Hence, a review would help in catching those rapists who walked away free.
Home Minister Umashankar Gupta said yesterday that "the state will reopen all closed rape cases and re-investigate them."
"We will look at each case from the beginning and if there is even a small hope of bringing the accused to justice, we will," he said.
