Washington, April 18: According to some, the multiple blasts in Boston on April 15 that killed three and injured over 170 people could be linked to the Waco massacre of April 19, 1993.

What was the Waco massacre?

The Waco massacre or siege started on February 28, 1993, and continued for 50 days till April 19.

The siege began when the US Bureau of Alchohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), accompanied by media people, tried to execute a search warrant at Mount Carmel Center farm, which belonged to Branch Davidians, a religious group, located in the Elk community in Texas, 14 kilometres from Waco.

On February 28, soon after the attempt to execute the warrant, a two-hour-long gun battle ensued in which four agents and six Branch Davidians were killed.

After the ATF failed in the mission, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) took over and initiated a siege and it ended after nearly two months when the farm compound was destroyed in a fire following a second attack. Sixty-seven people, including women and children and the sect leader were killed in the fire.
