On Tueday, police arrested the driver Heeralal from Madhya Pradesh based on toll-barrier records. The police has taken the driver to Jaipur where he is being interrogated.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rajesh Vyas said that the 'truck was traced on the basis of toll-barrier records that the speeding truck had crossed after the mishap'.
The man, Kanhaiya Lal along with his family were involved in an accident, where his motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck. Lal's 26 year old wife and his 8 month old daughter were run over by the truck and died instantly. The incident took place in the recently opened Ghat Ki Guni tunnel on Monday. The two survivors cried out for help in vain. The man clutched onto his son, crying and screaming for help inside a tunnel. According to the police, the injured husband kept crying for help for 40 minutes but was ignored by passers-by. It was only after a staffer of a toll booth saw the crying husband and his son, on the CCTV monitor, did the victims receive help.
Although after the accident, Kanhaiya called his relatives and friends, there was no network coverage.
The 2.8 km tunnel bored through Jhalana hills was inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President in January this year.
