Delhi Gangrape redux? This time a minor raped inside a bus

New Delhi, April 15: It seems buses have become the most convenient place for rapists to sexually assault women/girls in the national capital. After the December Delhi gang-rape horror, where a 23-year-old woman was fatally gang-raped by a group of six men, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped inside a bus by a driver.

The incident occurred in a parked chartered bus in Sultanpuri area in outer Delhi on Saturday (April 13) night. Police have arrested the culprit and a case of rape has been registered against him.

The rapist has been identified as Rakesh Kausal, 47.

The incident is said to have happened when the minor was playing outside her home in Sultanpuri area when her neighbour Kaushal allegedly lured her into the bus. He then allegedly sexually assaulted the girl inside the bus.

Police said the incident came to light on Sunday after the victim narrated the incident to her parents.

The parents reported the incident to the police who took her to a hospital where a medical examination confirmed sexual assault.

The infamous Delhi gang-rape victim died in a Singapore hospital after fighting for her life for13 days. The incident shocked the whole nation, as citizens across the country came out on the streets to protest against crime against women.

Initially, five accused in the case were facing trial for allegedly gang-raping and assaulting the woman, who died in a Singapore hospital on December 29.

With the proceedings against the main accused Ram Singh having abated after his death on March 11, the remaining four adult accused - Mukesh, Vinay, Akshay Singh and Pawan - are facing trial in the case for rape and murder of the woman.

The sixth accused in the case is a juvenile who is facing trial before the Juvenile Justice Board in Delhi.
