Chennai: Cognizant techie, wife commit suicide
Arivalagan, who was working with IT major Cognizant, allegedly had a spat with his wife 26-year-old Abhirami. Chennai police registered a case of unnatural death and began investigation.
After their initial investigation in the case, police official was quoted as saying, "The watchman of the building heard loud noises and rushed to see what had happened."
"It appears that one of them jumped off the balcony of their fourth-floor apartment. The other must have jumped soon after. Abhirami died on the spot, while Arivalagan died on the way to a hospital," added the official.
According to sources, the couple, both postgraduates in computer applications, used to have fights as the wife wanted to pursue her career in IT field but the husband was upset with the decision and opposed it.
The two bodies were sent to Chrompet General Hospital for postmortem and later were handed over to their family members.
Friends and close relatives refused to make any comments. However, sources informed that Arivalagan and Abhirami hailed from Salem and Erode district respectively.
The two family members arranged their marriage and the couplehad rented the apartment right after their marriage in Aug 2012.
According to neighbours, both Arivalagan and his wife kept to themselves and relationship between both the families was cordial. Police have not found any suicide note yet.
