Pope wants decisive move against sexual abuse
The recently elected pope pushed for a decisive action in this regard while meeting the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith, Bishop Gerhard Ludwig Mueller, a statement of a Vatican said.
The Vatican said the Holy Father advised that the congregation should continue the line of action which was sought by Benedict XVI in regard to cases of sexual abuse.
Francis, who took over last month after Benedict's sudden resignation, spoke about measures to protect minors, assist victims of sexual abuse and necessary action against the perpetrators and stressed that drafting and implementing directives given by bishop conferences from across the globe is key for the church to assert its credibility.
American victims of clergy abuse have sought swift actions from the Pope.
