Acid Attack
Muzaffarnagar (UP), April 4: The shocking incident where 4 sisters became victims of an acid attack, may leave one of them without vision. A 23 year old teacher is likely to lose her eyesight doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said.

They further said that it was her eyes which suffered maximum damage since the acid was not washed off properly and soon after the incident.

The cornea of the left eye has been damaged and doctors have not been able to correct it through surgery. The doctors are however, trying to save one of her eyes and may have to undergo plastic surgery.

The incident took place on April 2, when 4 sisters were on their way to school. Three of them work as teachers in school and one of them is a student. The incident happened when they were returning home from school. The victim whose condition is critical has been shifted to Delhi's Gangaram Hospital for treatment. "We were coming back from work when two men came on a bike; they had their faces covered and attacked us with acid and ran away," one of the victims told journalists. However, police is yet to identify and arrest anyone in relation to the case.

According to latest anti-rape bill, person involved in acid attack has to serve life imprisonment in jail. However, human rights groups in India feel that the new changes in the anti-rape laws do not have the power to end rising numbers of acid attack on women. Statistics say in last decade the number of women attacked with acid has grown up hugely. New legislation has been passed following the gang rape of a student in Delhi in 2012 which has increased the punishment for acid attacks - but campaigners say the horrific nature of the crime means it needs its own specific legislation.
