Sudipto suffered injuries before death: Post-mortem report
Kolkata, April 3: The autopsy report of Sudipto Gupta, the young SFI leader who was allegedly thrashed by policemen and died in a hospital on Tuesday, said on Wednesday that he had suffered multiple injuries, including a fractured forehead and a broken jaw.
Reports said that the young leader had an injury to the back of his head and also on other parts of his body and that all the injuries were sustained before Gupta died.
Gupta, a post-graduate student of Rabindra Bharati University and West Bengal state committee of the SFI died at a state-run hospital amid allegations that a baton charge by the police led to his fatal injury.
The police, however, said that the activists had died after he hit a lamp-post while being taken to jail.
Earlier in the day, Gupta's body was wrapped in a red flag of the CPI(M) and carried in a flower-bedecked hearse to Netaji Nagar College where Gupta was general secretary of the students' council. Students and teachers offered tributes to the young leader. The body was taken to his residence at New Garia on the city's southern outskirts. Thousands attended the funeral procession.
Gupta was cremated at Keoratala burning ghat on Wednesday night.
