Maha cop in ICU after NCP leader's sons attack with sword
Patil was attacked with a sword allegedly by the sons and supporters of a former NCP corporator in Dhule on Tuesday (March 26) night.
In regard to the case, an FIR has been registered against 25 people including NCP corporator Chandrakant Sonar and his two sons.
Patil was attacked when he tried to stop two groups of youngsters fighting during the Holi celebrations.
"He (Patil) went there in response to the call and tried to control the situation. The culprits - Devendra and Bhushan - are sons of former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Chandrakant Sonar. One of them attacked Patil from behind with a sword," an official from Dhule's Azad Nagar Police Station told reporters.
Inspector General of Police, state law and order, Deven Bharti later told reporters that a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Indian Arms Act for attempt to commit murder and assaulting an on-duty policeman has been registered against the Sonar brothers and a dozen others.
Both the brothers are absconding now.
The incident comes close on the heels of Maharashtra MLAs thrashing a cop inside the state Legislative Assembly.
