Holi revellers beat 'villian' for protesting water wastage
The incident happened when the actor, known for his negative roles in films like "Sadak" protested against water-wastage by Holi revellers in his housing society in Versova, Mumbai.
He informed a television channel about the water wastage underway in the housing society by the residents. The residents got angry and assaulted the actor and cameraman of the television channel.
The actor registered a case against the men who beat him up at Versova police station in Mumbai.
An FIR has been filed against five people, belonging to actor's housing society.
"They thrashed the cameraperson and stole the video. I was pushed and threatened," Amrapurkar said.
The film fraternity has expressed its support to veteran actor following the assault.
"What!vetern actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar beaten up for protesting against wastage of water.this is intolerable.action must be taken right now," tweeted actor Manoj Bajpayee.
Actor Ranveer Singh wrote: "Sadashiv Amrapurkar was harassed by his colony people. He protested against water wastage when rain dance was going on..! I am with u SIR."
Holi was celebrated across the country on Wednesday, March 27. Several NGOs and activists conducted awareness programmes asking Holi revellers not to waste water in the wake of drought like situation in Maharashtra.
But, incident like beating up of Amrapurkar shows that such awareness programmes did not help much to sensitise people.
