New Delhi, March 27: While former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu completed record 2500 km padyatra, former chief minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje will flag off another record-setting yatra of 13,500 km on April 4.
The elections in AP are schedulted for 2014 and Rajasthan goes to polls this year. The pre-poll activity in Rajasthan is more necessary it is gaining pace with both the ruling Congress and the main opposition BJP.
Both parties have drawn up their yatra route charts to cover all 200 constituencies in 33 districts.
The ruling Congress will fire up its poll vehicle on March 30,
which is the Rajasthan's foundation day.
But the BJP's yatra is going to rewrite the record books in its scale and length of jouney. The BJP will begin the first phase of its 13,500 km long Suraj Sankalp Yatra from the Charbhuja temple in Udaipur on April 4th under newly appointed state unit president Vasundhara Raje.
The seven-phase yatra will seek to generate public opinion on the shortcomings of the Congress government in the State as well as the Centre.
"Constant updates about the daily activities of the yatra would be posted on social networking sites like Facebook, You Tube and Twitter," BJP spokesperson Kailash Nath Bhatt said.
The seven phases of the BJP's yatra would be kicked off from seven different well known temples and pilgrimages across the State.
These include the Charbhuja temple in Udaipur, Keshavrai Patan Jain temple in Kota, Ganapati temple in Ranthambhore, Diggy Kalyanji temple in Ajmer,Vishnoi pilgrimage Mukaam in Nokha, folk pilgrimage Ramdeora near Pokharan and the Khatushaymji temple in Jaipur.
TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu completed 2500 km of walkthon last week at East Godavari Distirct and created a new record in the political history of India.
TDP leader has so far crossed 15 districts, over 70 assembly segments, 137 mandals, 22 municipalities, 2 corporations and over 1086 villages in the marathon padayatra which he launched on October 2 . He has skipped walking for only four to five days to ill health, injury from a stage fall, accident death of K Yerran Naidu besides Nilam cyclone area visit.
Marathon man Advani's yatra
The name rath yatra is attached to BJP leader L K Advani. The 84-year-old BJP leader has undertaken numerous yatra after he began in 1990.
Advani has been involved in six yatras throughout India.
Ram Rath Yatra: Advani started his first Rath Yatra from Somnath, Gujarat on September, 25, 1990 to finally reach Ayodhya on October 30 1990. The yatra has been linked to the Mandir-Masjid dispute centred around Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site at Ayodhya.
Janadesh Yatra: Four Yatras named Janadesh Yatras started on September 11 1993 from four corners of country. Advani led this yatra from Mysore. The Janadesh Yatra was to seek the people's mandate against the two Bills, the Constitution 80th Amendment Bill and the Representation of People (Amendment) Bill.
Swarna Jayanti Rath Yatra: The Swarna Jayanti Rath Yatra by Advani travelled across India between May and July 1997. It was in celebration of 50 years of Indian Independence and also to project the BJP as a party committed to good governance.
Bharat Uday Yatra: The Bharat Uday Yatra was undertaken in the run-up to the 2004 Lok Sabha Elections.
Bharat Suraksha Yatra: The BJP launched a nationwide mass political campaign in the form of the Bharat Suraksha Yatra from April 6 to May 10 2006.
Jan Chetna Yatra: The Jan Chetna Yatra was in October 2011 on mobilisation of public opinion against corruption of the UPA government.
