Chargesheet filed in MP gangrape case

Datia, Madhya Pradesh, March 27: In connection with the Madhya Pradesh gang-rape case, for the first time a chargesheet has been filed without a Test Identification Parade (TIP) against the accused by the Datia police.

The Datia police have filed a chargesheet against the accused in a local court. According to NS Rawat, investigating officer, a 100 page chargesheet was filed on Tuesday. The accused have been booked under sections of rape and robbery.

The police said that they have enough evidence against the accused. The trial for the case will begin from March 30.

The 39-year-old Swiss tourist was gang-raped by a group of eight men near a village in Datia district on March 15. Her husband was attacked and thrashed by the men. Based on the complaint by the victim's husband, police had detained eight men. The couple was said to have halted near the crime site while on their way from Orchha to Agra. They had planned to cover the 250-km stretch on bicycles.

According to the woman's husband, around 9:30 at night, a group of seven men with lathis (wooden sticks) in their hands overpowered him and four of them then gang-raped his wife. The men also beat them up, he said. The woman was taken to a hospital in Gwalior where her medical examination confirmed that she was gang-raped.
