Malayalam actress Sukumari passes away
She was admitted to the Global Hospital in Perumbakkam as she had sustained nearly 40 per cent burns while lighting a lamp at the pooja room in her home on Feb 27. The hospital informed that Sukumari suffered a cardiac arrest and died on Tuesday.
The 73-year-old started acting at a young age and has appeared in over 2500 movies till date. The nation honoured her incredibly long film career by awarding the Padma Shri in 2003.
Sukumari is best known for her roles in Malayalam films "Chiriyo Chiri", "Vandanam", "Ezhu Nirangal", "Yakshi", "Arappatta Kettiya Gramathil", "Chettathi", "Kusruthikkuttan", "Karyam Nissaaram", "Kunjali Marakkar", "Odarathu Ammava Aalarriyam" and "Thacholi Othenan".
An amazing performance in the film "Namma Gramam" fetched her the National Award for Best Supporting Actress in the year 2010.
Recently Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa visited Sukumari at the Global Hospital. The two of them had acted together in the Tamil film "Pattikkada Pattanama".
Sukumari is survived by her son Suresh Bhimsingh.
