UP: Why girl dropped molestation charge against SP leader
The senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and a former MP, Singh might be relieved now. However, the incident seems to have exposed the dirty politics practised in the state.
It is believed that the young girl, based on whose complaint Singh was arrested on Sunday, has been pressurised to drop her charges of sexual harassment or molestation.
Surprisingly, police also have declared the case as "a closed case" citing the facts that the girl and her family members withdrew the case registered at the Shahjahanpur government railway police (GRP) station.
When GRP arrested Singh, a former MP from Machlishahr, it was discovered that he was travelling on a wait-listed ticket. The girl charged him of being drunk and of sexually harassing her while travelling on Padmawat Express.
The passengers in the train corroborated what the girl said, and testified to the police team. Policemen who arrested Singh said the MP was so drunk at the time that he was unable to walk.
Samajwadi Party leaders restrained them from commenting on the issue. However, main opposition party in state assembly Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Monday staged a walk-out demanding stringent action against Singh.
Meanwhile, parents of the girl claimed that they are not interested to pursue the case as the accused leader apologised to them for his misbehaviour.
