No turn out for Ram Singh's funeral;family feels 'left out'
Even though, Ram Singh's father 'pleaded'with the villagers to attend the funeral, the village where he was cremated had also gone to the extent of instructing shops which supply items required for funerals, not to supply anything to Ram Singh's family.
Alleging that the villagers have been keeping a distance from the family after the December 16 incident, Ram Singh's father Mangilal said, "After my two sons were arrested by the Delhi police, the villagers had literally kept a distance with us. I had pleaded everyone to be present during the funeral rituals, but nobody is with us at this time."
"He is no martyr, nor did he do something for which we have to feel proud or respect the departed soul. He has given bad name to our village and the district. Thus, we decided not to keep any contact with the family and also decided not to participate in the funeral procession," said Kailash Gujjar a farmer was quoted saying.
His family is crying foul, blaming the jail inmates for Singh's death. "If my son had done a crime, he should have been punished by the court, but this was certainly not what he deserved. He was killed by the jail authorities in connivance with the inmates and this has to be probed properly,"Mangilal, his father was quoted saying.
On Monday, Ram Singh, the main accused in the case was found hanging in Tihar jail. However, his family alleges foul play. Now they fear for their younger son, Mukesh who is also one of the accused in the same case.
Ram Singh, along with five other men brutally gang-raped and assaulted a 23-year-old paramedical student before throwing her out of a moving bus in the national capital on December 16, 2012. Later the victim died at a Singapore hospital on December 29, 2012
