Bhubaneshwar, March 14: Father of rape convict Bitti Mohanty, BB Mohanty has accused media of sensationalising the whole case. However, the former DGP of Odisha said that he would co-operate with Kerala police which is likely to question him on Friday.
A team of Kerala police which had earlier arrested Bitti from Kannur will visit Odisha on Friday. The team will also visit Bitti's former school and college.
"I will co-operate with the Kerala police. Since the matter is subjudice I will not comment on the case. If Italian marines have refused to speak to the media, why should I? Media is sensationalizing the case," BB Mohanty told CNN-IBN.
Bitti was convicted for raping a German woman tourist in 2006.
Bitti was absconding for more than six years, before he was arrested by Kerala police on March 8. The case is high profile as Bitti is the son of former Odisha DGP who helped him to jump parole.
Earlier, Bitti was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for raping a 26-year-old German tourist in Alwar, Rajasthan.
But, he took advantage of his father's position when he was allowed a 15-day parole to meet his ailing mother in 2006.
Bitti jumped parole and was absconding since then. Bitti's father was accused of helping his son jump parole. The arrested man Raghav Rajan was working with State Bank of Travancore in Kerala.
Police arrested him from Kannur, Kerala last week. Now, documents which police teams have accessed after their investigation in Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh clearly indicates that the arrested man is none-other-than Bitti.
Police officials say during six years of Bitti's hiding, he taught at a school in Puttaparthi, completed an MBA in Kannur, and then got a bank job.
