New Delhi, March 12: As mystery and controversy surround the death of Ram Singh, the prime accused in the Delhi Gangrape case, police have revealed that Ram Singh's life was under threat in Tihar Jail. The officials of the jail had been informed about this.

According to a report by CNN-IBN, police claimed that the ''intercept of the cell phones being used from inside Tihar Jail revealed the plot to kill the gangrape accused''.

They also said that the conversation revealed that Singh could be killed on the way to court and hence commandos were deployed outside court.

According to the report the police said that many phone calls were made from inside the jail in January. It said a ''jail inmate, who is accused in the murder of journalist Soumya Vishwanathan, was also reportedly using a cellphone from inside Tihar Jail and had made several calls to Delhi-based people''

Following the calls, the Delhi Police slapped further charges on Amit Shukla, the accused in the journalist's murder case.

On Monday, Ram Singh, the main accused in the case was found hanging in Tihar jail. However, his family alleges foul play. Now they fear for their younger son, Mukesh who is also one of the accused in the same case.

Ram Singh, along with five other men brutally gang-raped and assaulted a 23-year-old paramedical student before throwing her out of a moving bus in the national capital on December 16, 2012. Later the victim died at a Singapore hospital on December 29, 2012.
