Delhi Gangrape accused: 'Don't send us to Tihar Jail'

New Delhi, March 12: Following the demise of Ram Singh, the main accused in the the Delhi gangrape case, 4 others who have been accused in the same case have demanded for extra security cover.

The lawyers fighting their case have written to Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde requesting for the same  as well as to the Delhi Police Commissioner. They have asked that they either be shifted to another jail or be provided extra security at Tihar.

The same letter has also been sent to the Chief Justice of India and the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.

According to media reports, lawyers claimed that the 4 accused said, "Shoot us, but don't send us back to Tihar Jail."

Although, this request was initially rejected, jail officials have been instructed to give in a report on the security arrangements for the suspects.

On Monday, Ram Singh, the main accused in the case was found hanging in Tihar jail. However, his family alleges foul play. Now they fear for their younger son, Mukesh who is also one of the accused in the same case.

35 year old Singh, was found dead at 5 am in his cell, which he shared with 3 other people. The other 3 prisoners slept throughout the incident. Even the guard posted to mind the cell did not detect anything wrong. This was with Ram Singh being on '"suicide watch."

Ram Singh, along with five other men brutally gang-raped and assaulted a 23-year-old paramedical student before throwing her out of a moving bus in the national capital on December 16, 2012. Later the victim died at a Singapore hospital on December 29, 2012.
