Venezuela to go to presidential election on April 14
Caracas, March 11: Venezuela's poll commission has said that the country will hold the presidential election on April 14 to find the successor of Hugo Chavez, who died of cancer last week.
The commission's announcement was made on March 9, a day after Vice President Nicolas Maduro, a man who was tapped by Chavez himself to be his successor, took over as the acting president.
Political observers back Maduro to win the April election in a face-off against opposition governor Henrique Capriles. The latter was defeated by Chavez in the last presidential election held in October last year but the ailing president could not carry on for long.
Chavez's death devastated millions of his supporters while his opponent regimes rejoiced the occasion, hoping that it would usher in a new dawn in their relation with the oil-rich nation.
