New Delhi, March 9: When will our politicians stop making "bizarre" comments on women and rape? Perhaps, not in near future. Latest to join the tribe of politicians and religious gurus making shocking statements about women and rape is BJP senior leader Murli Manohar Joshi.

According to Joshi "western outlook" about women is a reason for rape.

"The difference between western concept and Indian concept is that one considers them (women) the weaker sex and we consider them the mother sex," he said.

Releasing a book titled "Dented and Painted-Beyond Flesh" in Chennai, he said, "Because you consider them weaker sex you rape and because we consider them mother sex we worship."

Quoting anecdotes, he said Indian concept about women never painted them as inferior and the very concept that woman is inferior to man was repugnant to various schools of Indian philosophy.

Woman was not a body but persona, mind, intellect and above all 'universal mother," he added.

Earleir, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) supremo Mohan Bhagwat and self-proclaimed godman Asaram Bapu made illogical comments on women which had astonished everyone. Their comments on women and violence against women smacked of male chauvinism.

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat created a flutter when he said rape is mainly prevalent in urban India due to western influence and that such crimes against women do not happen in rural areas of the country.

Asaram Bapu courted controversy for suggesting that the victim of the brutal sexual assault was equally responsible for the crime and saying the girl could have called her assailants brothers and begged them to stop.
