UP minister lands in soup after sexist comment
Now the National Commission for Women (NCW) has asked for an explanation from Raja Ram Pandey, Khadi and Cottage Industry Minister Khadi and Cottage Industry for a 'sexist' comment he made last month.
During a function at Kamala Nehru Institute of Technology last month, 56 year old Pandey remarked at an Indian Administrative Officer (IAS) passed an inappropriate comment. "It is my privilege that I'm the guardian minister of Sultanpur for the second time and every time I get a chance to work with beautiful woman DMs."
He was referring to K. Dhanalakshmi, the incumbent district magistrate and commented about how he "thought about her predecessor Kamini Chauhan Ratan that no one could ever match her beauty". "Previously, when there was Kamini Chauhan Ratan I used to think that no woman can match her beauty. But when the present DM took over, I realised she is more beautiful. She is also very soft spoken."
"I have been thinking about their good looks. But she is also a very good administrator," he said.
The NCW has asked for an explanation for this "abjectly sexist and improper comments made by him".
He has been givenn 15 days to respond. NCW member Nirmala Samat Prabhavalkar has asked for a detailed or written reply which should be supported with an affidavit. The complaint was filed by an activist Nutan Takur
