New Delhi, March 8: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday took a dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying the latter uttered poetry in the Parliament to hide his government's shortfalls. Singh on Wednsday took an aggressive stand while replying to a debate in the Lok Sabha on the Motion of Thanks to President Pranab Mukherjee for the latter's address to the joint sitting of both Houses.

The PM, who is otherwise known for his quiet nature, launched a scathing attack on the opposition BJP. He mocked the former NDA government's India Shining campaign, terming it as an unsuccessful campaign and also took on veteran BJP leader L K Advani, who was his party's prime ministerial candidate in the 2009 parliamentary elections.

Singh presented a comparative picture of the country's economy under that of the NDA and UPA days with facts and figures and warned the BJP might be defeated again if it did not give up its arrogance. The prime minister's also uttered a poetry to which, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj replied with a couple of couplets.

The members of the Parliament on both sides enjoyed the poetic duel.
