Lucknow, March 4: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday met the wife of slain DSP, Circle Officer, Kunda Zia-ul-Haq and assured her of a CBI probe into the killing. Yadav also assured members of the state assembly that strict action would be taken against the guilty. Zia-ul-Haq was murdered in Balipur village under Hathgawan police station in Pratapgarh on Saturday.

The chief minister said the probe would be an impartial one. He also appealed to the family of the slain police officer to bury the body as per the ritual and tradition. He also promised all possible help to the kin of Zia-ul-Haq.

The Samajwadi Party MLA accused in the killing, Raghuraj Singh alias Raja Bhaiya, who resigned from the state Cabinet over the murder also sought a CBI probe. He said he had no reason to kill the police officer and would have preferred to transfer him in case there was any clash of viewpoints. Singh rubbished allegations that he had an old issue to settle with the slain officer.

The accused MP also said he was ready to go to the jail to save the state government from embarrassment, after the matter came up during the Zero Hour in the assembly.

Zial-ul-Haq never bowed before political masters: Local people

People remembered the slain officer as a bold officer who never bowed before the whims of political masters for career advancements. He commanded respect among people for his boldness but the politicians hated him, said local people.

It was also learnt that Zia-ul-Haq never attended public courts organized by political leaders and the latter were not happy with him for this.

Born and brought up in a poor family at Noonkhar, Zia-ul-Haq was loved by all for his simplistic nature. His father was a private employee but after his son had joined the UP police, he left the job and settled in the village. Senior police officers were seen consoling the grief-stricken family members following the death of Zia-ul-Haq. Thousands of local people also visited the family and offered condolences.

On Saturday night, Zia-ul-Haq was informed about the murder of a top village official in Kunda and he rushed to the community health centre where the body was taken. He also alerted senior police officers about the incident and the subsequent tension but before the latter acted, Zia-ul-Haq and his assistant reached Balipur village to control a mob. He was killed then.

Zia-ul-Haq was posted as the Kunda CO in July last year.
