EPL 2012-13: Tottenham vs Arsenal Preview

London, Mar 3: This is a chance for Tottenham to overpower their north London rivals Arsenal and become the top club in the capital.

Spurs slipped to fourth place after Chelsea beat West Brom on Saturday, but they now have a chance to edge closer to Champions League qualification and move ahead of Arsenal by seven points.

Tottenham last lost at home in 2007 and dropped points last season but still managed to finish fourth. In Novmeber, Spurs were leading 1-0 in the opening 10 minutes through Emmanuel Adebayor but the striker was later sent off and arsenal came back to win 5-2 at the Emirates.

However, Spurs hac recovered quite well after a shaky start to the season. Currently third in the league, Tottenham are unbeaten in 11 games. But Tottenham have been relying heavily on Gareth Bale who has scored 12 goals in his last 12 games.

Arsenal need a victory to close the gap on Spurs and Chelsea but the Gunners will have to double check on Bale. Their back line has kept only one clean sheet in 13 games while their win over Aston Villa was unconvincing and are in danger of crashing out of the Champions League when they visit Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

It is hard to predict will win this mouth-watering derby clash but there have been 33 goals in the last six meetings in all competitions and it is the highest-scoring fixture in Premier League history with 121 goals.

Tottenham have never finished on top of Arsenal since Arsene Wenger took over the Gunners in 1996. But things could be different this season as Arsenal have not won at White Hart Lane in four visits.

Team News

Tottenham welcome back striker Jermain Defoe after recovering from a ankle injury but could start onthe bench while forward Clint Dempsey is still out with calf strain.

Arsenal will miss right-back Bacary Sagna due to a knee injury. Midfielder Abou Diaby will be given a late fitness test.

Trivia:

*Tottenham last finished above Arsenal in 1994-95 season.

*Theo Walcott has scored four goals in the last four North London Derby games.
