EPL: Nani will be offered new Manchester United contract

Manchester, Feb 22: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to keep Nani at the club, only if the winger accepts all terms of the new contract and will not be guaranteed first-team football.

The winger who cost £17million from Sporting Lisbon in 2007 has been demanding £130,000-a-week but United are reluctant to meet his demands. United will take a huge gamble on Nani as his contract expires next year and could lose the 25million-rated Portuguese for free.

Ferguson feels Nani has a future at the club after his impressive perforamnce against Reading in the FA Cup/. The 26-year old Portuguese came off the bench to score and set-up the second.

"Definitely we want to keep him. He's one of the best match-winners in the game and I'm including the whole of Europe," Ferguson said.

"He wants guaranteed first-team football but he can guarantee that, his performance the other night can guarantee that. We're trying our best because he's such a match-winning player and capable of scoring the most incredible goals," he said.

Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg offered Nani an escape route but the winger turned the move but there were also links with other teams like Juventus, Arsenal and Porto.

Nani was criticised for his performance against Liverpool and their Capital One Cup loss to Chelsea. The winger landed himself in more trouble after punching reserve player Davide Petrucci before a hamstring injury ruled him out for nearly three months.

The wingers future was more uncertain after United confirmed the signing of Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace.

Nani will not be guaranteed first-team action due to the presence of wingers ashley Young and Antonio Valencia while Ryan Giggs, Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney have been playing out of position for United.
