New Delhi, Feb 21: Death of 12-year-old Balachandran, son of LTTE chief Prabhakaran, seems to have started haunting President of India Pranab Mukherjee.

The president faced difficulties while delivering his speech at the joint session of the Parliament for the first time ahead of the Union Budget session of 2013.

MPs of Karunanidhi-led DMK and Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK raised slogans over Sri Lankan Tamil issue during the maiden address of President in the Central Hall in New Delhi on Thursday, Feb 21.

According to sources, the MPs were referring to the killing of Balachandran allegedly by Sri Lankan soldiers. Earlier on Wednesday, Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa had demanded to treat the matter in International Court as a war crime.

Controversy over Balachandran's alleged murder has been ignited by the release of some photographs which are parts of a documentary - No War Zone: The Killing Fields of Sri Lanka. The documentary will be screened at the meeting in Geneva.

The photos show how Balachandran was given snacks before his execution at a camp operated by Sri Lankan security forces. [See shocking pictures released by Channel 4]

The director of the Channel 4 documentary, Callum Macrae wrote, "The new photographs are particularly important evidentially, because they prove that Balachandran was not killed in crossfire, or in a battle. His death was deliberate and calculated."

"The pictures fill in chilling details on the circumstances of his murder - and leave the Sri Lankan government with yet more questions to answer about just how systematic the executions at the end of the war appear to have been," he added.
