According to a Belgian public television reportage, the raid saw the 'gang of thieves hit a Brinks security truck as its contents were being loaded onto a Swiss aircraft bound for Zurich'.
While media reports initially suggested that the the haul was worth 350 million euros ($465 million), but later reports suggest that it was worth 50 million euros.
Although specifics of what was stolen has not confirmed, Belgian prosecutors said that a raid had been carried out at the airport.
According to a statement from the airport 'robbers drove through barriers onto the tarmac to get airside on Monday evening'.
The well-planned heist was completed within a few minutes.
However, according to the local police a vehicle later found near the airport which was burnt.
