Mamata holds administrative meeting at sea town

Digha (West Bengal), Feb 14: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday met officials of East Midnapore District Administration here on the second day of her visit to the district.

At the meeting held in Digha Shankarpur Development Authority office officials told the CM about the illegal construction alongside the sea beach which was seriously threatening the ecology. Banerjee immediately instructed her officials to monitor the issue and take action to prevent harm to the atmosphere in Digha and the adjoining areas. Various projects concerning development and beautification were also taken up at the meeting.

Banerjee also asked about all the projects that she had discussed during her visit to the area last year. She had allocated Rs 84 crore for the development of the region, sources in the Trinamool Congress said. Construction of drainage system was already in progress while a bypass road was constructed on both sides of the beach. A central bus stand had also been constructed, added the sources.

Local officials attached much importance to the CM's visit for several new tourism proposals were coming up in Digha, Mandarmani, Udaypur Tajpur and Shankarpur.

Banerjee stressed putting up more tentf ror the ftourists to add to the attraction of beach tourism.
