BJP to focus on Narendra Modi at national meetings

New Delhi, Feb 7: The BJP's national executive committee is set to meet here on March 1 and also the national council over the next two days. The latter, besides endorsing the election of Rajnath Singh as the party president, would also deliberate on the current political developments and the upcoming assembly polls this year.

All eyes at both both the meetings would also be on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who is believed to be at the threshold of making it to the national politics ahead of the 2014 general polls.

On Wednesday, The Gujarat CM met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and apprised him of various issues in Gujarat and later addressed students at Delhi college. Modi spoke about his development model and how that could be replicated nationwide. He did not mention about political rivalry and rued how "vote-bank politics" was affecting the country.

Senior BJP leaders saw this meeting as part of Modi's strategy to inch towards Delhi and agreed to the prospect of the latter's playing a bigger role in the near future.
