New Delhi, Jan 31: In a latest revelation which could further sour the relationship between India and Pakistan, a retired Pakistan Army General has said that former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif lied about Kargil war. The retired Army officer said in his book that Sharif was not in dark about "Kargil misadventure".

According to a report in The Dawn newspaper, Lieutenant General (retired) Shahid Aziz in his new book wrote that Sharif asked one of Pakistan's senior army men "when are you giving us Kashmir" during an informal discussion.

"This suggests that Sharif was not completely in the dark," Lt. Gen. (retd) Aziz said. Sharif maintained that he had never been informed about the Kargil operation.

Congress on Monday asked Pakistan to come clean whether they intend to maintain friendship with India in the wake of revelations of a retired Pakistani General that army regulars took part in the 1999 Kargil conflict.

"Now Pakistan needs to come forward and should prove that it really wants friendship with us. We want friendship with all countries including Pakistan but that should not be construed as our weakness," party spokesperson Rashid Alvi told reporters at a AICC briefing.

Debunking Pakistan's claims about Kargil conflict, Lt Gen (retd) Shahid Aziz, who was then heading ISI's analysis wing, has said that there were no 'mujahideen' but only regular soldiers who took a part in the "meaningless" 1999 war whose whole truth is yet to be known.

The officer also accused the then Pakistan Army chief general Pervez Musharraf of "cover up".

Reacting to it, Alvi said that "everyday a new face of Pakistan is exposed to us. At the time of Kargil war, Pakistan had said that 'mujahideen' carried out it but now it has come to fore that Pakistani Army was involved into it."
