Melbourne, Jan 18: World No. 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic beat Radek Stephanek of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 in the third round of Australian Open on Friday and then blasted disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong for doping.
Reacting furiously when asked about the American sportsperson, who on Thursday confessed to doping in each of his seven Tour de France victories, he said the latter cheated the sport and also people across the globe with his 'inspiring' life story. He said Armstrong should suffer for his lies.
The defending champion said he had not gone a blood test for half-a-year but yet gave urine samples when anti-doping teams sought it. He said although the anti-doping regulations were a bit strict but yet the tests were fair from the point of view that they were applied to all other players.
He said he had nothing against the anti-doping federation.
Meanwhile, last year's runner-up Maria Sharapova beat Venus Williams 6-1, 6-3 to advance into the fourth round of the Open. Saharapova finally lost a game in the tournament after defeating her Russian and Japanese opponents 6-0, 6-0 in the previous two rounds.
