Akbaruddin Owaisi's arrest to benefit both MIM, Congress

Akbaruddin Owaisi
New Delhi/Hyderabad, Jan 8: While Akbaruddin Owaisi is ready to suffer jail term to build his party - MIM, the Congress seems to have gone ahead with his arrest to delay taking a decision on Telangana.

Last month, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde had announced that a decision on the issue of separate statehood for Telangana would be taken within a month (Jan 28). After that Congress party president Sonia Gandhi had held a meeting with senior leaders and Rahul Gandhi was to hold a meeting today.

However, after an all-party meeting on the issue on Dec 27, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) said that it was against the decision and called for a bandh.

The Congress wants to make the Telangana issue its election promise in 2014 and may like to delay a decision on the separate statehood. It was also thinking on the line of autonomous council for Telangana and the Owaisi arrest and resultant unrest may give an opportunity to Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy to appeal for postponement of Telangana decision.

Even Owaisi's MIM is against Telangana and the party wants Rayal Telangana, which will include Muslim dominated four districts of Rayalseema in Telangana. It remains to be seen how the TRS will react to Owaisi arrest.
