Assam: CRPF jawan tries to molest woman, held
Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Anwaruddin Chowdhury said the jawan, along with four to five other men, attempted to molest and rape the woman on Thursday, Jan 3.
He said there was no rape but attempted rape and only the jawan tried to sexually assault the woman.
Moreover, a well-known Congress leader from Lower Assam was publicly beaten up by villagers for attempting to rape a woman. Media reports say the accused has been arrested by police. Bikram Singh Brahma, a Congress leader from Chirang district of Assam, has confessed to his crime.
Brahma, who is the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts' (BTAD's) Congress Co-ordination Committee President, reportedly tried to rape the woman in Salbari in Chirang around 2 am this morning.
As the woman, who is a mother of two children, raised an alarm, her husband called his neighbours. Angry villagers, mostly women, thrashed him in public view. Later, they informed the police. The woman's husband lodged an FIR alleging that Congress leader Brahma raped his wife last night.
