Delhiites tried to bomb gangrape accused's house, arrested

New Delhi, Jan 1: Days after Delhi gang rape victim's death in a hospital in Singapore, angry Indians showed their wrath on the main accused Ram Singh. A group of men tried to bomb Ram Singh's house in a slam area in the national capital. However, their plan was foiled by police who later arrested one of them.

Police arrested the 37-year-old man on Monday, Dec 31 and recovered two crude bombs which were planned to be used to attack the house. The arrested person has been identified as Rajesh.

According to police sources, they received a call saying two-three persons were seen loitering around Ram Singh's residence which is at Ravidas slum cluster in south Delhi's RK Puram area. While Rajesh was overpowered by other residents of the area, his two other friends managed to escape from the place.

One of the police officials was quoted as saying, "When the residents asked what they were doing there, they said they had come to blow up the house of Ram Singh. While one was overpowered by the crowd, two managed to escape."

The officials also informed that the bombs, which have been recovered from Rajesh, were made of simple explosive material used for making crackers.

Ram Singh is the main accused of the Delhi gangrape case in which a 23-year-old paramedical student became the victim. The girl was raped by six men and was beaten brutally. Later she along with her male friend was thrown out of a moving bus.

The girl suffered severe injuries and was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. After few days she was shifted to Singapore for better treatment. Unfortunately, she died on Saturday, Dec 29 and was cremated in Delhi in a very hush hush manner.

The incident shocked every Indians, especially the Delhiites who have been protesting since a long time demanding justice for the victim and more safety for women. People have been demanding capital punishment for all six accused who currently are in Delhi jail.
