New Delhi, Dec 19: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed the public interest litigation (PIL) challenging cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's nomination to Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of the Parliament.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice D Murusegan and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw dismissed the PIL filed by a former Delhi MLA, Ram Gopal Singh Sisodia. The latter had challenged Tendulkar's nomination, saying he did not possess any of the required qualifications prescribed under Article 80 of the Constitution to be eligible for nomination to the Rajya Sabha.

On Nov 21, Additional Solicitor General Rajeev Mishra, who appeared for the Centre, said Tendulkar's nomination in the Rajya Sabha was in tune to the constitutional provision, which also allows nominating experts from sports.

It was following this that the division bench decided to reserve the order.
