EPL: Manchester United will not buy players in January

Manchester, Dec 16: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that he will not be buying Arsenal winger Theo Walcott or any other player in January, according to a report in MailOnline.

Ferguson, who will turn 71 next month, is not willing to take active part in the January transfer market unless it is to allow players from the reserves to go out on loan.

"I will not be bringing anybody in, in January, definitely not," Ferguson said.

The 70-year old Scot believes that he has enough players i nhis squad to retain the Premier League title, play in the Champions League and the upcoming FA Cup.

United were heavily linked with Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder, 28, who is unhappy with the club due to their new salary structure. The Dutch midfielder demanded nearly £250,000-a-week from potential suitors which prompted United to step away from their long-term target.

The Red Devils were also linked with wingers Walcott and Crystal Palace youngster Wilfried Zaha while another target Tom Ince is most likely to be heading to former club Liverpool.

And while the league rivals go on a spending spree next month, United are happy with the talent at their disposal. Chelsea target Radamel Falcao and Gonzalo Higuain, Manchester City want Fernando Llorente and Stevan Jovetic.

Heading towards Christmas, United were handed a defensive injury boost as captain and defender Nemanja Vidic made a comeback after months on the sideline with a knee injury. The 30-year old Serbia international made a second-half substitute appearance coming in for Rio Ferdinand.

Moreover, at the start of the season, United missed young defenders Chris Smalling and Phil Jones but both have returned to full fitness levels as United eye their 20th league title. The Red Devils are currently six points clear off rivals City at the top of the table.
