Details of Gujarat assembly elections 2012: 2nd phase

After an absorbing first phase which recorded 68 per cent turnout, Gujarat is set to go to the second and final phase of the crucial assembly polls. The high turnout in the first phase has made the election all the more interesting with various quarters wondering whether the outcome will be marked by a strong anti-incumbency sentiment or if Narendra Modi will return with even a stronger mandate.

Gujarat Phase 2 Prominent Candidates

The second phase will see the northern, central and southern parts of the state going to the elections and compared to Saurashtra-Kutch region, Narendra Modi is set to witness an easier challenge. Elections will be held in 95 constituencies on Dec 17 and the results will be declared on Dec 20.

Maninagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is fighting from this seat. Wife of suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, Shweta Bhatt, is contesting against him on Congress ticket.
Ghatlodia: State revenue minister Anandiben Patel is contesting from this seat. Last time, she contested from Patan constituency. Ramesh Patel (Dudhwala) is fighting on Congress ticket against her.
Akota: Industries minister Saurabh Patel, who won from Botad in 2007, is contesting from this seat. His opponents are Congress's Lalit Patel and Gujarat Parivartan Party's (GPP Areshkumar Prajapati.
Siddhpur: Health minister Jaynarayan Vyas is contesting against Congress's Balvantsinh Rajput.
Mahesana: Water resources and urban development minister Nitinbhai Patel, who contested from Kadi last time, will take on Congress's Natwar Patel.
Deodar: Maldhari Samaj's leader Gova Rabari is contesting on BJP's ticket. His opponent is BJP's Keshaji Chauhan.
Kadi (SC): Gujarati film star Hitu Kanodia is contesting on BJP's ticket. Congress's Ramesh Chawda will take him on.
Ellisbridge: Wife offormer BJP minister Haren Pandya, who was murdered in 2003, Jagrutiben Pandya is contesting on GPP's ticket. BJP's sitting MLA Rakesh Shah is contesting against her.
Naranpura: Gujarat's ex-home minister Amit Shah is contesting on BJP ticket from this seat. Rebel BJP leader Dr Jitubhai Patel is contesting against Shah on Congress's ticket.
Jamalpur-Khadia: Gujarat Assembly's chairman Late Ashokbhai Bhatt's son Bhushan Bhatt fight from here on BJP ticket. His father had on from the former Khadia seat for eight consecutive times.
