Ahmedabad, Dec 10: At a time when bitter war of words continue between Congress and BJP ahead of Gujarat polls over the progress, Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai joined the debate. The former Miss World Aishwarya praised the progress in Gujarat and said that she felt completely at home in the state.
"I'm familiar with the incredible progress. Gujarat has been going from strength to strength and the nation has been witnessing it," Aishwarya said while attending a promotional event on Sunday, Dec 9.
Earlier, Modi in his blog has stated, "Our vision for Gujarat has been, is and will remain inclusive, all-round growth to create a Bhavya and Divya (glorious and divine) Gujarat. With this Sankalp Patra, I am asking my Gujarati brothers and sisters to elect the BJP."
Gujarat Assembly Elections 2012 will take place in two phases: First phase is slated on Dec 13 and second phase on Dec 17. The counting will take place on Dec 20, 2012. Gujarat has 182 assembly constituencies.
"I am so glad to be considered as part of family in this state and I feel totally at home. It has been a long-standing relationship and became even closer from my film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam," she said.
Analysts say Rai's endorsement for the state should not really come as a surprise because her father-in-law and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan is already a brand ambassador for Gujarat tourism. But, there is a contradiction, Aishwarya's mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan is a Rajya Sabha member from Samajwadi Party (SP). And SP is vocal against communal forces in the country.
